Corner Demolished to Make Room For ‘Lavish’ Development

By: Andy Ambrosius

Crews are now hard at work constructing a new luxury housing development after taking to the heavy machinery to tear down a Citgo gas station and adjacent building.

Hermitage Sixteen11 has been in the works since early 2013, if not earlier, when Sedgwick Properties Development Corp. proposed the housing plan. Located at 1611 N. Hermitage Ave., the project clearly gets its name from its location.

It wasn’t easy getting the development approved, through. The Bucktown Community Organization hosted a meeting in December where residents voted against the project. A zoning change at the property had neighbors questioning the process.

Sixteen11, however, was approved months later. Once completed it will feature 18 three bedroom, two bathroom units with private elevator access, private outdoor spaces and hardwood floors throughout.

That’s combined with “lavish master suites,” in-unit laundry and attached heated parking, according to Koening & Strey’s real estate listing of the units. Pre-construction costs range from $650,000-$750,000.

Jennifer Mills-Klatt, a real estate representative with Koening & Strey working with Hermitage Sixteen11, says construction will hopefully be finished in the first quarter of 2014.
